ASUS Republic of Gamers Launches ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090
Asus announced today the launch of its latest overclocked gaming graphics card at an incredible 2700MHz clock, achieved by adding a cooler of equally incredible scale: A 400mm-long triple 120mm fan unit in closed-loop configuration:
Other improvements include liquid metal compound on the GPU die for low temperature and noise, a larger cold plate than previous models, and magnetic daisy-chainable fans for optimized heat dissipation. Custom GPU Tweak III software includes Thermal Map, Power Detector+ and Mileage features exclusive to the ROG Matrix GeForce RTX 4090 make it easy to achieve optimized performance.
Due to its enormity, the new model might not be as big a deal to those of us who remember when liquid cooled cards would give us a slot back: This model spills out past its second slot to a 2.5-slot frame, and our examination comes up with no better reason than “style”. High-end gaming system builders simply don’t need as many slots as they once did, and we can’t find a case small enough to exclude this card that wasn’t already too small to support its radiator. Still, the 2.5-slot frame design being used to support a card and cooling solution that’s less than two slots thick feels a bit…overdone.
